Stand Up and Be Counted on Earth Day

Four decades ago I was a little kid and only cared about my Barbie. My mom and dad only cared about their business and family, and the government, as I remember, only cared about war, but no one that I can recall, openly cared about our planet.
Or so I thought…
Even though I was oblivious to it (Barbie), there were thankfully quite a few who had begun asking far-reaching questions about our environment, namely Senator Gaylord Nelson. Earth Day was his brainchild that grew from 20 million eager participants 40 years ago on a grassroots level to 1 billion worldwide anticipated this year.
That means 1 billion individuals across the planet today are planting trees, picking up trash, contacting their representatives, buying locally grown produce, turning off lights, and actively choosing a life of reverence for the Earth.

Ask yourself starting today what role you - personally - play in changing our planet’s future. Ask yourself what role the government plays? Can the government even be effective at solutions for climate change and initiating clean energy technology without the public participating?
Except that you may have simply forgotten how important you are in this process, the fact remains that you will be living with the decisions being made and they will be a part of your life, whether you live off-grid or on Main Street.
It’s time to wake up from our sleepy collective nap and be counted.
